Warner Music Group says streaming is gaining steam

Warner Music Group has announced a major uptick in recorded music streaming, as the industry continues to look beyond downloads to paid subscriptions. The company announced on Monday that its recorded music division had received more revenue from streaming than paid for digital downloads in the quarter ending March 31, an unprecedented announcement from any of the major music labels. Overall, recorded music streaming revenue increased by 33 percent, giving more support to the idea that even with its various issues, streaming is the future for music consumption. "This is an important milestone, and impressive considering the strong double-digit growth is coming on top of an increasingly significant base," Warner Music Group CEO Stephen Cooper said.
